Today, as a class, we talked about the importance of reading "A GoodFit Book" everyday for at least 20 minutes. We also discussed the importance of reading various styles of books, such as non-fiction, fiction, graphic novels, magazines and (YES!!!) newspapers. I thought the below image depicted a good representation of the importance of reading.

Today, I sent home a number of documents in the students' blue folders. The first document, was a Home Reading Log. This document keeps track of the number of minutes students read at home. It is important for you to initial the document when your child reads, since as a class our October goal is for everyone to read at least 200 minutes for the whole month. If everyone in the class does this then we will decide as a class what type of class party we will have. YAAAA!!!
The second form is the Scholastic book order booklets. If you would like to purchase anything please have the forms back by Tuesday, October 10th as that is when I'll be placing the next order.
The final item in your child's backpack is their home reading bag. In this bag there is a leveled reading book along with a Guided Home Reading Log and a document suggesting topics you can ask your child while he/she is reading. Please have your child bring this bag back by Thursday so we can switch out their books. If you would like to come in and volunteer in the classroom and help read with the students and switch out their reading books please let me know.
Finally, I would like to remind everyone that picture day is October 4th!!!!
