What a great and exciting week we had.

In math we have been working on addition strategies, such as doubles, near doubles, making 10s & 100s, and front end addition. Please ask your child about these strategies. Towards the end of the week the students did a math assessment on numbers up to 1000 and some addition strategies. Your child's test will be coming home next week for you to sign. Next week we will be exploring various strategies for subtraction.

In writing the students finished up the stories, with a beginning, middle, and end. They have been writing these stories on the computer and drawing and illustrations once finished.

In social we have been finishing up our Malala research and putting all of our research on Pages. Next week we will be starting our Mapping unit.

In science we started our new Engineering Process inquiry project on beaver dams. Today students watched a short video on the American Beaver (through National Geographic Kids), read a couple of books, looked at some images and did a guided draw. Students will then create a dam that allows the least amount of flooding water to pass through it in order to save the beaver habitat and protect these creatures.

We are looking for some materials for our project. If you have any of these materials please have your child bring them in, as we will start building our dams next week:

1) Popsicle Sticks

2) Cereal Boxes

3) Masking Tape

4) Tooth Picks

5) Index Cards

6) Corn Starch

7) Coffee Filters

Also, next week we will be starting our Rocks and Minerals investigation. If you child has some rocks they would like to bring in to investigate please have them put them in a bag with your child's name on it. We will be investigating Rocks and Minerals until Christmas break.
